What we do
The Hatch Man offers a Mobile or Mail Order service to replace and rejuvenate your crazed or faded hatches, windows or portlights with new acrylic or polycarbonate. We also fabricate new windows and windscreens. We can supply and install new brand name hatches and portlights. We are based in Newcastle Australia and service Sydney and Port Stephens areas. We can also arrange special jobs to remote sites where the project is necessary yet the vessel is too remote to allow for delivery to our area. We replaced all the molded windows, hatch and portlight lenses and seals on a Beneteau in Darwin recently. Previously located in Brisbane, we regularly travelled to Sydney to undertake one and sometimes up to four projects at a time. RESTORATION work forms a large part of our work each year. Hatches and windows you may thin are beyond the point of repair may well be totally re-furbished. 30 year old Lewmar hatches are routinely restored, sometimes powdercoating frames, giving an end result far outstripping most expectations.
Hatches
We come to you and remove the hatches and secure the boat. Once there the hatch is stripped back. Frames can be stripped of existing finishes and powdercoated or two-pack urethane or epoxy coated if desired. We fabricate new lenses and fit them into the restored frames using a low modulus highly elastic silicone based adhesive sealant, designed specifically for this purpose. There is a few day curing period which ensures the total integrity of the bond. Handles and seals are restored, O-rings are replaced and parts lubricated. We can seal practically anything! Others may have failed your requirements. We always suceed where others fail.
Portlights
We manufacture portlight acrylics and we will gladly come to you, remove the old ports, take them away as templates and re-fit new acrylic while checking seals and replacing all o-rings. The finished product is usually better than the original. We fabricate and fit lenses to framed port lights, fabricate, replace and service seals and repair leaks.
Fixed windows
We come to you and remove the old window , secure the boat and take the old acrylic as a template for shaping of the new window. Or if it is a new vessel we make a template and use this to fabricate the new window. When we return we clean the window surrounds taking great care to remove all silicone residue. We then prep and bond the window in place and can usually give you the choice of having it through bolted or not. We then polish the job and leak test for your peace of mind. We use a double sided adhesive glazing tape as part of the bonding process and all seals are made perfectly watertight and aesthetically pleasing.
Seals
We can custom make seals to fit a wide variety of hatches and ports and if we don't have it we can make you a seal that will fit. We have a wide variety of rubber and Polymer profiles to choose from. We also have access to marine outlets that can help. We can also make seals in place using different types of polymers.

Mail Order
We provide a mail order service that enables you to have your hatch acrylics changed anywhere in the country.
